York is a very popular and friendly place to bring your kids.

Because of its enormous size of this museum really is a great day out for those with children of all ages.
There is so much to see, do and explore.
You may be very surprised to learn that a museum of this quality actually has free entry for adults and children.
The York City Walls (the "Bar" walls) are the most complete medieval city walls available in England today.
You can see wonderful viewpoints over the picturesque river Ouse and of York itself.
You can still walk along them (around 2 miles in total) for free.
The York Art Gallery is also situated in the City Centre, and contains and impressive array of internationally famous art.
There is a guest exhibition by David Hockney in the early part of 2011.
Again this is free entry for all adults and children.
The charming city centre gardens of Museum Gardens and Deans Park allows play, ice cream, picnics and some ancient ruins to explore.
There is no cost for either of these lovely parks, and (on a pleasant day) there is hours of fun to be had.
The famous street "The Shambles" has recently been voted the most picturesque street in all of England.
This ancient alleyway is a must for all visitors and is particularly lovely in the evening after the sun goes down.
York is very much like an open air museum.
If you do a little research, and take a little advice from the locals, then you will discover that the very best of York often does not have to cost you a penny.
