    • 1). When selecting your keywords, you need to first think like one of your customers. How would your customers search for your product or service? What search terms would they use?

If you are displaying for ad on Google's content network. Find terms that identify with Web sites your customers would like to visit.

    • 2). Refine words that may be too broad or just completely irrelevant.

Bidding on keywords that are too broad, for example: music, may result in you getting a lot of users clicking on your ad that may have no interest in your product. Someone searching music may be looking to buy music, may be looking for musical instruments, looking for new music, looking for sheet music, and you may be selling musical toys for infants. So you can see how this broad keyword can blow your advertising budget.

    • 3). When your campaign is up and running you will be able to access your Search Term Report which gives you a listing of the search terms users used to find your ad.

    • 4). Make use of the different keyword matching options: Broad, Exact, Phrase, and Negative. If you don't make a choice, your keywords will be set to Broad by default.
