RAZR Fit Driver Will Catch You

Callaways first venture into the adjustable weight and face angle driver category. They come out the razr fit driver.

The combination of Forged Composite and OptiFit Technology makes Callaway's first driver featuring adjustability the performance leader. OptiFit Hosel adjusts the face angle in Open, Square or Closed positions at address to improve accuracy and trajectory. Revolutionary material in the crown that's lighter, stronger than titanium. Aerodynamic contours reduce energy loss from drag during the downswing by 14% compared to the RAZR Hawk Driver, and create higher impact speeds for added distance. A combination of VFT and Hyperbolic Face Technology creates a large sweet spot and high ball speeds across the titanium face for long, consistent distance.

Now to the face which of course has some funny shaped hyperbolic symbol in the center which Callaway in one form or another has been using for years. Do you like it? We understand that the preferred setting on Tour is for the open face setting and the heavier 12 gram weight on the heel side of the head to promote a slight draw. We tried this and it is a very powerful setting but needs a lot of clubhead speed to work effectively.

For starters, a new optic look at address is a smaller-sized head. Yes, a driver that doesn't look like a Volkswagen on a stick. The 440cc head (which comes with the lower-lofted versions) has a deeper, thinner face. If the design doesn't catch you, the performance will. Callaway begins 2013 with a strong driver offering in the RAZR Fit Xtreme.

Callaway drivers have always had a muted sound to them but the RAZR Fit takes that muted sound to a whole different level. The sound still has the muted properties to it yet there's a distinct 'ting' to it that doesn't give it a wishy washy sound. It's a powerful, audible sound that lets you know that you've caught it flush and at that point it's time to watch the ball take off and disappear into the distance. With the Callaway RAZR Fit Driver our testers averaged 253.02 yards of total distance. That's significantly longer than some of the more recently reviewed drivers.

So much of feel for me is attached to the sound and this club does not disappoint in that regard. It's not loud, it's not overly muted..Just very very solid sounding. The sound at impact is a solid "thwack!" that moves Callaway off a trend toward "plastic-y," dull-sounding drivers.

The Razr Fit to me combines the best combination of looks, forgiveness and distance performance I've seen to date in a driver and was worth the wait.
