How to Remove Old Veneer Tape Edging
- 1). Protect the top of the piece of furniture with an old sheet or towels. Place cinder blocks or other heavy items to keep pressure on the top of the table and to limit the chance of the heat gun loosening intact veneer.
- 2). Find the seam of the veneer edge tape or start where the veneer edge tape has cracked or come loose.
- 3). Apply heat to the veneer edge tape, small sections at a time, using a heat gun to loosen the glue.
- 4). Pry the veneer edge tape away from the furniture with a putty knife. The tape may come off in small pieces.
- 5). Smooth any remaining glue or gouges with sandpaper to prepare the edge of the furniture for new edging or paint.
