Ask where he works, learn about his hobbies. Find out as much as much as you can about his personal life. If you do go to a bar don't leave your drink unattended. Either take it with you or fininsh it before your excuse yourself. That's a perfect opportunity for him to drop a date-rape drug into your drink. You'll really remember nothing until the next morning. Dont'give him that prime opportuninty.
Don't Reveal Personal Information
It's best not to reveal your address until you get to know your date better. No matter how persistent he may be about allowing him to either walk or drive you home let it be known that your policy is to get to know someone first before you'll allow that. If he's honorable he will understand. If not, then he probably is not worth getting to know.

You should always keep personal defense items on your person. Handy stun guns that immobilize a person is harmless and will allow your escape. Or pepper spray is an alternative that is widely used by women. Keep these handy devices close to you, where you can access them quickly. Don't accept an offer to put your purse in a trunk etc. That can be a dead giveaway. You can also keep small defense products in your pocket, ready to use if necessary.
Dating should be a happy time for you. Get to know your date and hopefully your new found date will become you prince.
