Dog Training Class Certification

Find a Class

• Find out where dog training classes are being offered. Many pet stores have training classes that vary according to the dogs' ages and skills. Ask your veterinarian or other local pet owners for a recommendation on where to attend classes.
  
  

Class Types

• Choose the most appropriate class for your dog. Visit the location and meet with the trainer. Ask about the classes offered and try to determine which one would be the most appropriate. Classes generally range from beginner, for young puppies, to advanced tricks, for more mature dogs. Some of the more advanced classes require that you complete other classes first.
  
  

Qualifications

• Make sure your dog qualifies for the class. For most classes there will be a minimum age requirement of 3 months. The trainer also might require a consultation and meeting with your dog before the class to ensure that your dog does not have aggressive tendencies. Additionally, you will probably have to provide proof of vaccination for your dog.
  
  

Attendance

• Attend all the scheduled classes. If you have to miss one, you may be able to take a makeup class. If you miss more than two classes without making them up, your dog will probably not get the certification.
  
  

Participation

• Participate in the class and practice the training techniques and tricks with your pet at home. If you are attending a more advanced class that requires testing to graduate, you'll want to be sure to get in a lot of practice.
  
  

Graduation

• You can pick up your dog's class certificate during the last session.
