How to Start Up From an Apple CD

    • 1). Insert the installation CD into your Macintosh computer's disc drive. Press the power button, and click the "Restart" button to restart the computer. Alternatively, click the "Apple" button on the menu bar at the top of the screen and click "Restart" on the sub-menu.

    • 2). Hold down the "C" key on your Mac's keyboard while the computer restarts. Release the key after the Apple startup chime plays to load the installation CD.

    • 3). Click the "Continue" button to proceed with the disk reformat, or click "Installer" on the menu bar. Click "Disk Utility" on the sub-menu to repair or verify disk permissions, which checks your hard drive for problems. Select your hard drive in the sidebar of the window, and click "First Aid."

    • 4). Click "Repair Disk Permissions" or "Verify Disk Permissions" to scan your hard drive, and press and release "Command" and "Q" to exit out of Disk Utility and reboot your computer.
