How to Fix Air Conditioner Odor in 2003 Chevy Suburban
- 1). Mix 1 cup of warm water and 1/2 cup of bleach in a small spray bottle. Test the bleach in an inconspicuous area on the air vent to ensure it will not discolor the air vent.
- 2). Spray the bleach and water mixture directly into the air conditioning vents on the dashboard and directly into the air-intake opening, which runs along the length of the windshield on the exterior of the vehicle. Spray into the vent that runs along the length of the windshield on the interior of the vehicle as well.
- 3). Wipe off any excess bleach and water from the vents, using a cleaning rag.
- 4). Start the car and allow the air conditioner to run for 10 to 15 minutes, depending on the severity of the smell. Exit the vehicle during this step to avoid exposure to fumes. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 afterward.
- 5). Place baking soda or five to six briquettes of charcoal in a shallow pan. Place the pan under a seat or in an inconspicuous area in the vehicle. This will absorb any remaining odor and can be replaced periodically to keep the odor from returning.
