Saving Money With Vinyl Windows

A worthwhile construction project is one that includes installing vinyl windows.
Vinyl windows provide superior energy savings, and will make the outside of the home look beautiful.
These windows are typically crafted using the LowE2 (Low Emissivity) glass standards providing a quality seal that keeps outside air from infiltrating the home, and inside air from leaving the home.
Moreover, these attractive windows are stronger than wood and aluminum, and are certified Energy Star compliant for all climate zones.
According to the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air-conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), five factors affect the R-value of windows.
Listed in their order of importance, the first factor is the glazing material, followed by the quantity of glazing layers, the size of the air-gap between the layers, the thermal resistance of the frame, and the quality of the seal between the window frame and the home.
Made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC), vinyl window frames do not conduct heat the way aluminum does, so they will prevent heat produced by sunlight from entering the home.
This type of transmitted heat not only increases the temperature of the home, but can also deteriorate the home's drapes/curtains.
Vinyl window frames include a heat mirror to prevent IR (infrared radiation) from entering and heating the home's interior.
They are constructed using a double pane glazing configuration, and are filled with an inert gas to prevent transmission of heat.
This means that vinyl windows offer improved R-values, resistance to the transmission of heat, and offer higher energy efficiency than standard frame windows.
Not only that, but because vinyl window framing is custom made to fit, there is reduced air-leakage from gaps around the sills, framing, and the building's structure.
Vinyl windows offer several options in the type of glazing that can be incorporated into the frame.
Low emissivity (low-e) glass uses a specialized coating that can reflect up to 70% of the transmitted heat while allowing the full spectrum of light to pass through.
There is also a heat absorbing glass option that can absorb up to 45% of incoming radiant heat generated by the sun's rays.
Lastly, there is a reflective glass option.
This type of glass has been coated with a specially designed reflective film that not only absorbs heat, but can also reduce the amount of light that is allowed to pass through.
Of course, this film is optionally available in versions that allow full transmission of light.
Vinyl window framing is scratch resistant, it comes in a wide variety of sizes and shapes, and the colorant is infused directly into the vinyl material.
This means that the window frame will never need to be repainted.
So, when window replacement is needed, think of vinyl windows because they are esthetically pleasing, cost effective, and will save money on energy costs.
