Stop Firefox From Scanning Downloaded Files

103 6
Mozilla Firefox is a free, open-source browser, that focusses strongly on security of the users.
Though this is a pretty good thing for us, it may become obstrusive, and may cause problems sometimes.
For example, if you are downloading a torrent, Firefox may scan the '.
torrent' file without any reason, while you know that it is nothing to worry about.
It's really boring to wait while Firefox completes the virus scanning for downloads.
Sometimes, especially in Firefox 4 beta, this even causes the browser to crash.
Maybe you don't download risky files, or maybe you have an anti-virus program that just repeats the scan after it is scanned by Firefox initially.
You will want to turn this feature off.
  • Click the address bar at the top, which is in fact called Awesome Bar by Mozilla.
  • Type in 'about:config'.
  • Click 'Okay' for the warning.
    Don't mind it.
    It's just a joke.
You have not even paid for using the browser.
  • In the search bar at the top of this page, type in 'browser.
    download.
    manager.
    scanWhenDone'.
If you have not used this configuration page before, you may get intimidated.
Don't let that happen to you.
    This is perfectly safe.
  • When it appears in the results, double-click it to switch the value from true to false.
Now, the download scanning has been disabled and Firefox won't scan any file you download.
I don't know why Mozilla doesn't put this setting in the Options.
They really should.
