How to Build a Wooden Fountain
- 1). Use a water-resistant and leak-proof wooden garden container. Prepare your container to face the elements by adding a layer of water sealant. Using a light-grain sandpaper, gently sand the surface of the container by working with the grain of the wood. Wipe clean with a damp cloth and let dry. Then apply a coat of water sealant. Let dry. If your container is not leak-proof, attach a plastic liner to the inside of the container, using a staple gun.
- 2). Place the container on a flat, sturdy surface. If it is unstable in your chosen location, use a steady base, such as a stepping stone, to ensure the water stays level once the container is filled.
- 3). Position the fountain pump in the bottom of the container. Raise it to your preferred level by stacking flat stones underneath the pump base. Fill the container half full with water, turn on the pump, and slowly add more water until you have the desired effect.
- 4). Hide the fountain pump, if you prefer the effect, by stacking more smaller flat stones in a circle around and up to the top of the pump in a pyramid-like style, creating a waterfall effect, with the water cascading down the stack of rocks into the container of water.
