How to Troubleshoot iTunes Music Sync

104 4
    • 1). Check the connection between your iPod and your computer's USB port. Make sure that the USB is pushed all the way into your iPod and the USB port. If the cords are not attached properly, your iTunes music library will not sync.

    • 2). Change the USB port that you are using. Not all USB ports have the same strength. If you computer has more than one USB port, try plugging into it and syncing your iTunes.

    • 3). Make sure that you are running the latest version of iTunes. To check for updates, left-click on "Help" (located in the upper-right corner of the iTunes screen) and scroll down to "Check for Updates." Left-click once more. If any updates are available, iTunes will prompt you as to how to install them.

    • 4). Exit out of iTunes and disconnect your iPod. To exit out of iTunes, simply click the red "X" located at the top-left corner of the page. Reconnect your iPod and open iTunes. Try syncing once more.

    • 5). Left-click on the icon for your iPod (on the left side of the screen). Left-click on the tab that is labeled "Music" and make sure that the music that you want to sync has a check mark next to it. You will have the options of syncing your entire music library or select playlists that you have created. Simply left-click on the box to include the music/playlists that you want to sync.

    • 6). Right-click on the songs that are not syncing. Left-click on "Get Info" and make sure that your song is in a format that iTunes recognizes. ITunes plays the following song formats: MP3, MP3 (VBR), AIFF, WAV, M4A, M4P and M4B. If your songs are in the wrong format, you will have to convert them (see Resources).

    • 7). Remove songs that you no longer listen to. If your iPod has reached capacity, it will not sync any new songs.

    • 8). Locate the songs that will not sync on your computer's hard drive. To locate the song, simply type the name of the song into your computer's search bar. If the song is no longer on your computer (due to accidental deletion or a variety of reasons), that song will not sync. While in iTunes, you will see a dark exclamation point next to the song titles of the songs that are not found on your computer's hard drive.
