How to Replace the Blades on a Sears Lawn Tractor
- 1). Put on your work gloves. Position the tire jacks beneath the lawn tractor's front bumper and lift the tractor high enough so you can access the blade assembly beneath the mower deck. Place the jack stands under the front axle and put chocks behind the two rear tires.
- 2). Disconnect the spark plug wire and remove the ignition key to prevent the tractor from accidentally starting while you are removing the blades. Wedge a block of wood between the first blade you'll be removing and the mower deck to stop the blade from rotating.
- 3). Unscrew the hex bolt with an electric impact wrench and six-point socket. Remove the hex bolt, lock washer and flat washer and set aside. Slide the blade off of the mandrel assembly, being careful to avoid touching any sharp surfaces. Repeat process for other blades.
- 4). Place a replacement blade on the mandrel assembly with the trailing edge facing up. Place flat washer and lock washer on the bottom of the blade and threat the hex bolt through the hole into the mandrel assembly. Use a torque wrench to tighten the bolt to 30 to 35 ft. lbs. Repeat this process for reattaching other blades.
- 5). Remove jack stands and lower the mower's front end.
