Orlando Facial Rejuvenation Options
Recently, skin care treatments such as BOTOX Cosmetic, JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel, Restylane®, Perlane®, and other products have become widely available for the treatment of concerns such as forehead lines, wrinkles around the eyes and mouth, sagging jowls, thin lips, and cheek hollows. When administered by a qualified, board-certified plastic surgeon, the result is smoother, younger-looking facial skin.
BOTOX Cosmetic
In my experience using BOTOX at my Orlando practice, I find it particularly useful for treating dynamic wrinkles. These types of wrinkles result from repeated facial muscle contractions. For example, when you smile, frown, or raise your eyebrows, your facial muscles contract. Over time, the cumulative effects of your muscle contractions produce visible wrinkles. BOTOX is effective at treating dynamic wrinkles because it is made of botulinum toxin type A, which inhibits the contractions of facial muscles, producing fewer visible wrinkles.
Is BOTOX right for you?
Meeting with a qualified doctor is the first step toward deciding which facial rejuvenation procedure is right for you, but it helps to know your options. I typically recommend BOTOX to patients with wrinkles in areas such as the forehead and brow. Make sure to discuss your medical history with your physician before you undergo any medical procedure.
Injectable Dermal Fillers
In some cases, your skin looks older because of lines or hollows. In such cases, I often suggest using an injectable dermal filler to smooth out the skin and fill in those hollows. Options available include:
- Products that contain hyaluronic acid: Hyaluronic acid is a natural component of your skin that adds volume and hydration. As you age, your body's hyaluronic acid production diminishes, resulting in lost volume and skin laxity. Hyaluronic acid can be restored to your skin with certain brands of fillers, such as JUVÉDERM and Perlane.
- Calcium Hydroxylapatite: Naturally occurring in your body, this substance can be used to revitalize nasolabial folds and frown lines around the mouth, as well as other areas of the face. An example of a product in this category is RADIESSE® Volumizing Filler.
- Polylactic Acid: A synthetic chemical, polylactic acid is safe and effective for treating wrinkles. Available in products such as Sculptra® Aesthetic, this ingredient stimulates your body's natural collagen production, enhancing your youthful appearance over the months after your treatment.
Choosing the Right Treatment for You
When patients ask me which skin care treatment is right for them, I discuss their cosmetic goals and evaluate their skin concerns. At my medical spa in Orlando, I complete a thorough evaluation before recommending any procedure. I find that the more patients know about their options, the more confident and comfortable they feel about their decision to rejuvenate their skin.
