Amazing RAZR Hawk Driver in the Wales Open Champion"s Bag

For the second consecutive year, a Callaway Golf tour player walked away from Celtic Manor with the spoils as Alexander Noren captured his second European Tour at the Wales Open on Sunday.

The Swede, using Callaway's new forged composite RAZR Hawk driver, powered his way to victory after leading the field in driving distance at 304.1 yards. The Callaway RAZR Hawk also had a surprise in store for me. Spin levels for solid hits we're pretty normal, if on the lower end around 3300 RPM, but off-center hits showed a significant decrease in spin, which equated to more ground roll.

My swing speed was solid around the 105-108MPH range and distance was also up there at the 290 yard range. The trajectory was slightly lower than expected for a 10.5 degree driver at around 10-11 degrees. I usually hit a lower ball, but I have a feeling the high kick of the Aldila RIP had an effect here.

Noren was delighted to see the results from Callaway's latest gem, which includes hyperbolic face technology for consistently higher ball speeds, an aerodynamic head shape for maximum distance and a RAZR weighting system to personalise ball flight.

The workability of this driver was also great. I'll bet the Aldila RIP had something to do with this - it's a really solid shaft. I felt in control at address, and knew how the club would perform when trying to work the ball to the right or left. The club also performed well when jumped on - Callaway made a good choice partnering with Aldila on this club.

"I tried the new Callaway RAZR Hawk driver and it just bombs," said Noren. "I feel great with it and will be able to take that confidence into Congressional for my first US Open in two weeks." But it was not just the driving that impressed Noren, but his overall ball striking - Noren ranked second in greens-in-regulation at 76.4% and 12th in driving accuracy.

"I felt like the final round was the best ever ball-striking day I've had in my whole life," added the 28-year-old from Stockholm. This shaft's ability to maintain a low ball flight may be a point of contention for players who enjoy a higher trajectory, but on the other hand you'd be hard pressed to balloon this driver.
