How to Write a Letter Disputing a Charge on My Visa Bill
- 1). Go to the Federal Trade Commission website. Copy and paste the billing dispute form letter.(http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre16.shtm).
- 2). Fill in the date, your name as it appears on your credit card, your address and account number. You'll find the account number on your credit card and credit card bill.
- 3). Find the name and address of the financial institution that issued your card. The name and address of the card issuer appears on your credit card bill and on the back of your credit card. This is not Visa; it is a bank, credit union or other type of financial institution. Add this information to your letter.
- 4). Fill in the amount of the dispute. Replace the words "(describe the problem)" with a description of the problem in your own words.
- 5). Photocopy receipts or other documents supporting your claim. Replace the words "(use this sentence to describe any enclosed information, such as sales slips, payment records)" with the names of your documents. Next to the word "Enclosures " at the bottom of the letter replace the words " (List what you are enclosing.)" with the names of the documents.
- 6). Sign the letter and put it and copies of any supporting documents in an envelope.
- 7). Mail the letter by certified mail with return receipt requested.
