    Offline in Windows 7

    • 1). Run the program "Paint." You can find it in the "start" menu, under the "all programs" submenu in the "accessories" folder.

    • 2). Click the blue rectangle in the top left corner of the Paint window and click the "open" tab in the menu that appears.

    • 3). Find and choose the picture file on your computer that you want to resize, then click "open." Your picture will appear in the Paint window.

    • 4). Click the "resize" button in the "image" area in the upper part of the Paint window. A new window will appear, called "resize and skew."

    • 5). Select either "percentage" to resize the picture relative to its current size or "pixels" to specify the new size directly.

    • 6). Type a width value into the "horizontal" field. Note that if the "maintain aspect ratio" option is checked, the "vertical" field will automatically change to keep the picture's width/height ratio, and vice versa if you edit the "vertical" field. Uncheck this option if you need a specific size and don't mind stretching or squeezing the image.

    • 7). Click "OK" once the fields in the "resize" area are filled to your requirements, then view your resized picture in the Paint window.

    • 8). Click the blue rectangle again, and this time choose "save as" to save your resized picture. Choose a destination and file name, then click "save."

    Online in a Web Browser

    • 1). Navigate to the resizeimage.org website.

    • 2). Click the "browse" button, then find and select the picture file on your computer that you would like to resize. Click "open" to confirm your selection.

    • 3). Click the "upload image" button to send your picture to the program. Once uploaded, your picture will appear on the web page.

    • 4). Click the "advanced editor" link if you need a specific size; otherwise, use one of the "small," "medium" or "large" options. In the advanced editor, the "keep height and width proportional" option functions exactly as the "maintain aspect ratio" feature in Paint. Click and drag the lower right corner of the picture until you get the size you need. The width and height of the picture are shown under the "current image" heading on the left side of the page. You can also drag the midpoint of the right or bottom edges to adjust one dimension at a time.

    • 5). Click the "save changes" button when your picture is the right size, then click the "download image" link under the "current image" heading on the left side of the page to download the resized picture to your computer.
