- 2). Make sure the Koi pond filter you are considering offers both mechanical and biological capabilities. The mechanical filtration will remove organic waste and the biological filtration will removes nitrates and ammonia from the water.
- 3). Check to be sure that the organic waste in the mechanical portion of the filter can be easily removed. This will generally need to be removed manually. If not removed, it can release harmful bacteria into the pond water.
