Truck Campers - A Great Alternative to RVs

If you are single, or a couple with only one child or less and you enjoy camping, but hate the idea of tents you may find that a popup truck camper is a much better choice and a full RV or tow camper.
Popup campers are compact, light, easy to maintain, cheap, and can go anywhere an RV can go, plus many places it can't for a whole lot less money and hassle.
Truck campers have been around for 50 years and changed dramatically with the times.
Many people often make the assumption that because popup truck campers aren't stand along with RV's that little has changed and they are no more than a box on a truck with a stove and a roof.
Of course this assumption is completely wrong, and many of the innovations found in the standalone RV's costing hundreds of thousands of dollars can also be found in a truck camper.
There are several big drawbacks to owning a tow or standalone RV outside of their higher costs.
They are more expensive to maintain, while towing campers don't have engines or many mechanical features that need maintenance.
They do have tires, brakes and additional electrical systems to keep working, and there is also the hitch to take into consideration, which do occasionally fail or wear out.
A standalone RV is great if you have a couple of children you bring along on camping trips or long trips across the country.
They are roomy, have better amenities than some homes and hotels, and are basically a home for a family of 4 on wheels.
But they are outrageously expensive, even used ones, and require their own vehicle registration and insurance, and in some case a special or different class driver's license.
They are big, and that means you need space to store it when not in use, or if it is lived in full time, and open, and sometimes expensive RV park.
Not only that but if you are spending more than a few days in any area you will need to tow or rent a second vehicle for your every day transportation needs for supplies.
With today's high cost of gas, an RV is not exactly a cost-effective vehicle.
Having to fill up a second vehicle is sure to eat into your vacation budget.
With a popup truck camper the only vehicle that needs to be maintained in the truck itself, and they are much cheaper to buy, and easier to maintain than an RV or tow camper.
Gas mileage is much better with a popup camper than an RV and tow camper, and are easier on the trucks transmission that a tow camper.
So, before you go off and purchase RV, consider a truck camper!
