Things You'll Need

Instructions

1

Move the furniture outdoors if possible. If moving it is not an option, surround the floor around the furniture with newspaper or plastic to catch any loose spores.
2

Scrape off loose mildew by rubbing briskly with a scrub brush or broom. If indoors, make sure all of the mildew lands on the newspapers or plastic and throw it away right away.
3

Vacuum the mildewed area to remove any spores that might remain after brushing. Be sure to dispose of the vacuum contents to prevent spreading the mildew.
4

Open curtains to a nearby window in order to expose the furniture to sunlight for an entire day. This will help to dry out the fabric as well as help to remove the mildew. Point a fan or heater directly at the article if sun and air are not an option. If the furniture was moved outside to clean, leave it outdoors for an entire day to let the sun dry it.
5

Combine equal amounts of rubbing alcohol and water and mix well. Rub the mildew affected area with the alcohol mixture. Dry the furniture with a fan until there is no moisture left.
