How to Organize Your Boathouse So You Can Find Things Again

Boathouses are great. Keep all the stuff you need for your boat in a storage area close to your boat so you can use it when needed, and you don't have to keep it in the boat, or be forced to keep going to the house garage for stuff. Problem is, after a few years (or months in some cases) all that stuff accumulates in the boat house (or shed), making it more and more difficult to find the things you need. You probably even forget you have certain items in the boathouse. Has your favorite tackle box gone missing? Is it hidden in the pile of stuff in the boat house? This is a crisis! Here's how to solve this disorganization problem for the health of your heart and the well being of your boat!
Take Everything Out of the Boathouse
Understanding what you have in the boathouse is the first step to getting it organized again. Sort out the items you use frequently, categorize the items into utility themes (like boat cleaning equipment, boat maintenance equipment, fishing equipment, boat recreation equipment, etc). Weed out, throw away, give away, or sell any items that you do not need. This is a big step. Don't keep stuff you don't use and know in the back of your mind that you will never use.

This time find an organizing system that will put all the stuff you have on the floors on your boathouse up on the walls. The four walls of your boathouse provide substantial amount of storage and organization space. Organize your boating stuff into category areas (as described above) in certain set aside locations on the walls. This way for any given category of stuff, you can quickly find and store items.
Make sure you find a storage organizing system that is industrial strength and consists of bars, shelves and hooks. It needs to be super strong so you can store all your stuff, whether a water tube, water skis, fishing gear, boat cleaning equipment or boat gear, completely on the four walls of your boathouse. You also need an organizing system that is enamel coated, industrial grade, so it won't rust and deteriorate with the wet conditions surrounding a boathouse.
