You should observe your posture when you're sitting, standing and sleeping.
You should always make sure that your lower back is adequately supported when you're sitting down.

When you sleep, you should make sure that your position doesn't cause stress on your sciatic nerve.

Over-the-counter drugs usually work well enough for some, but for others, they need stronger painkillers, which run the risk of becoming addicted to them.
Though these have been proven to relieve sciatica pain, many people don't really enjoy being dependent on drugs, and some have remarked that the effects of the medications lessen over time, requiring a higher dosage to relieve their pain.
Ultimately, pain medications don't seem to address the underlying cause of sciatica, as they only help relieve the pain.
Surgery Some medical practitioners will suggest surgery to treat your sciatica.
Some of the common procedures recommended include a lumbar laminectomy to correct spinal stenosis, a diskectomy to remove a problematic disc from your spine, and even spinal fusion, which is usually used as a last resort, as it involves fusing two or more vertebrae together, which results in little to no movement in your spine.
