How to Erase the Memory on an iPod

    • 1). Hook your iPod to your computer with its FireWire or USB cable, then wait for iTunes to automatically run.

    • 2). Select your iPod's name under "Devices" in the "Source" panel on the right. Notice that a summary of your iPod's settings and data usage appears in the main pane.

    • 3). Choose "Restore." Notice that you will have several restore options.

    • 4). Select your desired restore option from "restore," "use same version," "use newest version" and "restore and update." Descriptions of each restore type are listed in iTunes.

    • 5). Enter an administrator password if prompted, then allow iTunes to restore your iPod. This process can last several minutes. A progress bar appears on the screen tracking restore completion.

    • 6). Follow the on-screen instructions for stage two of the restore process. Depending on your iPod model, you may either receive a message telling you to disconnect your iPod or to leave it connected.

    • 7). Set up your iPod through the iTunes assistant. When the restore process completes, you must set up your iPod the same way you did the first time you bought it.
