Hotels for the Frequent Traveler
Location
The location of your accommodations is often determined by your trip itinerary and meeting locations. If you are going to be meeting with different clients over several days, consider facilities that are centrally located to those meetings. If you're just seeing a customer for the day, an airport facility may be the better option. Many popular hotel and travel search engines allow you to locate accommodations near landmarks, such as an airport or a downtown attraction.
If you enjoy staying at a particular chain, browse their website for your destination and click on a map of their location relative to where you'll need to travel for your business.
Room selections
Most hotels will have standard room options such as two double beds, a single queen or king bed. Some offer non-smoking and smoking rooms, contained on designated floors of the facility. Look for other features in the room such as a seating area, small desk, storage, small refrigerator, coffee maker or other things that may be important to your stay.
Business related features
Most hotels have business-friendly services for the frequent traveler who needs to stay connected and productive while on the road. Features that may set one place apart from the rest include:
- Free Wi-Fi
- A business center for making copies, printing and scanning documents, sending a fax
- Secure storage facilities for important documents or equipment
- Shuttle transportation to downtown or airports, or assistance with rental cars, limousine and taxi service
Food
You will want to plan for your meals when you won't be with customers, so find out the dining options offered by the hotel before you make reservations. Many will offer, at a minimum, a continental style breakfast. Some have restaurants inside the facility, which could be an option for entertaining your clients. Facilities in major metro areas are usually close to many restaurants, so you will have a range of options if needed.
Other Amenities
If you are going to have some free time during your trip, you may want to enjoy other services such as:
- Fitness Center or gym
- Indoors or outdoors pool
- Massage services
- Spa services
- Athletic courts for basketball, tennis or racquetball
Hotels with these features may cost a bit more, but if you'll have the extra time, why not enjoy yourself?
