How to Patch a Swimming Pool Floor
- 1). Purchase a swimming pool liner patch kit. Most patch kits include adhesive that can be used in dry pools, as well as underwater in pools that are in use. Read the label carefully to ensure you buy the proper kit if you need to patch your pool while it is full.
- 2). Measure the size of the tear in the liner. You don't necessarily have to take a tape measure underwater, but you need to have a good idea of just how big the leak is. You can place your finger next to the leak and compare the length of the tear from the end of your finger.
- 3). Cut the patch so that it is 1/2 inch longer and wider than the tear. Use scissors to cut the patch in an oval shape. You do not want to cut a square or rectangular patch, as the corners can can lift up or become snagged on debris or feet in the water.
- 4). Clean the area around the tear, if your pool is empty. Use some acetone on a cotton ball to wipe the area clean. If your pool is full of water, skip this step and simply brush away any debris that is around the tear.
- 5). Apply the patch adhesive to the patch you made. If you are working in a dry pool, smear some adhesive around the tear on the liner as well. Allow two to three minutes for the adhesive to become tacky.
- 6). Place the patch over the liner tear and press down to adhere it to the liner. Hold one end down with one hand, and run your thumb over the length of the patch to drive out any air bubbles underneath. Run your thumb around the entire outside edge of the patch to make sure it forms an airtight seal.
- 7). Allow the adhesive to dry for ten minutes. Repeat the step above and press down to ensure a proper seal.
