How to Combine Speech & Keyboard Inputs
- 1). Plug a microphone or headset into your computer's mic jack.
- 2). Click the Windows "Start" button in the lower left-hand corner of the screen.
- 3). Type "Windows Speech Recognition" into the "Search programs and files" box at the bottom of the "Start" menu.
- 4). Click on "Windows Speech Recognition" to open the program, and click "Next" to pass through the intro screen.
- 5). Click "Desktop microphone" if you're using a freestanding mic, or click "Headset microphone" if applicable.
- 6). Read aloud the sentences that appear on your screen. Speak clearly, but at a normal pace. This step of the process calibrates your computer to your unique voice signature, and it requires several minutes of reading.
- 7). Click "Done" when you're finished reading all the sample sentences. Your mic is now ready for use as a speech input.
- 8). Open "Windows Speech Recognition" and say "start listening" to activate your speech input whenever you want to use text-to-speech capabilities.
- 9). Say "stop listening" to switch to a standard keyboard input.
