Sleep Herbs - 3 Natural Herbs to Get Some Rest

103 1
The majority of people will experience difficulty sleeping at one point or another during their lifetime.
While some have full-blown insomnia, others simply find their minds racing before a big day, or just have trouble drifting off from time to time.
Many people find that jet-lag and changing time zones can also affect when they can fall asleep as well as the quality and quantity of that rest.
There is no shortage of medications on the market aimed at helping people get and stay asleep, which is a clear testament to just how many of us are suffering from lack of sleep.
However, these drugs can have serious side effects and sometimes can even exacerbate the problem.
Luckily, there are several sleep herbs that many people have found quite successful at relieving their sleepless nights.
Valerian Root Valerian root, along with the other two herbs, has been around for many years.
It even shows up in the great doctor Hippocrates' writings as being used as a remedy for insomnia as early as the 2nd century! As it has been used for so many years without ill-effect, valerian root is obviously a remedy that delivers results without the negatives associated with traditional medications.
Kava Kava Kava kava is another one of the most popular and effective sleep herbs.
It is widely used in the Pacific Islands to promote relaxation and happiness.
While in those countries the herb is mostly consumed in beverage form, it is much more common and convenient to take the herb in its dried form, usually in a capsule or pill.
It delivers the same calming effects that have been enjoyed by foreigners for many years.
It is a powerful relaxant yet users do not report the level of grogginess as is usual with most other sleep aids.
Hops While many of us associate hops with beer, it has another use as well.
It has been shown to have sedating properties and is used in a variety of applications, from being consumed as a tea, as the contents in an eye pillow, or in an herbal supplement.
Its effects are fairly mild and, thus, users do not run the risk of the dreaded "sleep hangover" that comes with so many medications.
All three of these sleep herbs help people fall asleep quickly and enjoy a good night's rest without the fear of addiction, grogginess, or other side effects.
