Troubleshooting Problems With iPod Batteries

Charging Your Battery

• The first step you should take when you are having iPod battery trouble is charging the battery. Start by charging your iPod using the white USB cable that came with your iPod. Give your iPod a few hours to receive full battery charge. Wall chargers are sold for iPods. These chargers use the same white USB transfer cable that plugs directly into the wall charger. Use a wall charger to see if your iPod will charge.
  
  

Low-Powered USB Port

• If you are using a wall charger and find that your iPod receives a full charge, the problem may lie with your USB port. Most computers contain at least two different USB ports. When you charge your iPod using a USB port, there is a possibility your port may be having problems with low power. If you suspect this could be the problem, use a different USB port. Most laptops come with USB ports on the side of the laptop, but they may also have additional ports in the back. Home computers have USB ports in the front of the computer as well as some in the back. Switch your USB location to ensure your ports are working correctly.
  
  

USB Hubs

• Some computers don't have enough USB ports for the amount of devices you need to power, so you may use a USB hub to supply the additional ports you need. If you are using a USB hub, unplug your iPod from the hub and plug it directly into your computer. There may be problems with the hub providing low power to your iPod or your hub may not be working.
  
  

Computer Goes to Sleep

• When you are not actively using your computer, it may turn itself off using a sleep mode. Although it is still turned on, your computer may have special sleep settings that shut down the use of a majority of your hardware while it's in a sleep mode. Most computers have sleep modes to save power. Disable your computer's sleep mode to make sure it is not interfering with the charging of your iPod.
