McGraw-Hill Has Done It Again With His Journey Across Time
McGraw and Hill would lead their publishing company into the arenas of aviation, health and atomic energy over the course of the first half of the twentieth century. In was in the 1950s that the company expanded into publishing educational materials. They had dabbled in producing textbooks for engineering and science since their original merger, however now they would include many other subjects as well. This would eventually lead to the name of McGraw-Hill being synonymous with educational books.
McGraw-Hill Companies would acquire Gregg, California Test Bureau and F.W. Dodge companies. This would pave the way for publishing Gregg Shorthand, Standardized Testing for K-12 and foreign language materials for educators. In 1989 Eastman Kodak, R.R. Donnelley and McGraw-Hill would combine forces to release Prism Custom Publishing. This permitted teachers to custom design their own textbooks for their classrooms.
In 2000 the company grew in their children's educational field. More companies merged that were highly thought of in this arena. Students in kindergarten through high school have all had at least one series of books printed by McGraw-Hill. Glencoe is a subsidiary of McGraw-Hill and is booming with their Journey Across Time Social Studies series for middle school and high school. Many districts nationwide use this series, including the Nashville school system.
Journey Across Time uses the art of storytelling mixed with pure fact and stunning visuals. After all, the book shares authorship with National Geographic. History, geography, what is actually happening in the time period that is being studied all coalesce into one giant picture of understanding for the students.
