BOAT REVIEW OF THE BROOM 42cl
This Broom 42cl has versatile, spacious and well appointed accommodation which provides plenty of options for its owners and crew. A more spacious version of the 39 KL, the 42 CL has the trademark aft master cabin, deck saloon with sliding door access to port, the galley and dinette on the lower level, before the second heads and forward V-berth cabin. Main cabin areas are open plan, Light and airey, making for comfortable surroundings and there is no risk of the crew feeling confined or claustrophobic. Great for entertaining with ample options in the saloon or out in the cockpit, Broom Boats have a long tradition of boat building with a reputation for €quality and innovation'. From their traditional base in Brundall, Norfolk they have produced many of the marques that have led the way in motor boat and motor cruiser developments over the years.
This Broom 42cl motorboat was clearly ahead of her time as you can see by her lines and innovative design features. A good sturdy sea boat and yet just as able to find its place cruising inland waterways. There were 49 vessels built between the years 2000 and 2007. The 42cl was the first boat to introduce the modern style "eyebrow" windows and also used a black frame for the saloon windscreen, giving it an all-in-one look. Her twin Yanmar (300hp) diesel engines will give her a good turn of speed and her shallow keel will help maintain control at low speed. We found this vessel moored on the Thames but it has recently returned from an extended cruise in the Mediteranean , visiting such destinations as Greece, Turkey and Croatia. These Brooms have spacious open cockpits which give good all round vision and yet allow for that essential sense of safety. The open cockpit does have the benefit of a full cockpit enclosure which essentially provides an extra €room' for socialising. The helm position has a splendid array of equipment. This example has chart plotter, radar, autohelm and depth instruments. For a boat of this size it is perhaps equipment that should come €as standard' but it is still worth mentioning that this Broom 42cl has a bow thruster which should help in those tricky situations where an extra €helping hand' is of use. The hydraulic arch quickly retracts for low bridge heights and the wide uncluttered decks will make for ease of access especially at those times when speed and ease of movement are necessary. With water sports in mind, the rear swim platform serves its purpose well. Extra sleeping options are available with the large dinette folding down into another double bed. There is ample stowage too for those of you who enjoy extended stays aboard. If you want to cruise in comfort, you could not ask for more than this lovely Broom 42cl has to offer.
