I found out about this campground on the Florida State Parks Web site, and I've RV camped there on various occasions over the years.
Describe your camping trip:
The sites are large and the bath houses are clean and well-maintained. This is a huge park with lots to do, awesome hiking and bike trails. There is the beautiful Loxahatchee River with great fishing and canoeing, lots of wildlife, and great bird watching.
Pros: Two family campgrounds are to be found at Jonathan Dickinson State Park. Pine Grove Campground, with 90 sites, is located near the ranger station in the east part of the park. The River Campground is about four miles from the park entrance, near the Loxahatchee River. It has 45 sites. Both campgrounds have large, tiled bathhouses with hot-water showers, and sites with water, electric, table and grill. There is a dump station in each campground.
Cons: The Pine Grove campground suffered a fire a few years back and it is on the comeback, but the River sites are beautiful. Try to get the River sites, I won't camp at the Pine Grove campground, just because I prefer the River sites.
Nearby attractions: The beautiful Loxahatchee River is within walking distance from the River sites. Canoe rentals are always available. A canoe trip is definitely a must. The beaches at Jupiter Beach are among the most beautiful in the state. Plenty of shopping nearby. Orlando and the theme parks are about two hours north.
Further comments:
This is an awesome state park. If you've seen my other reviews, you'll know I prefer state parks over private parking lots. You'll also see I love my wonderful Florida State Parks. Jonathan Dickenson is among my families favorites. I highly recommend the beautiful Jonathan Dickenson State Park.
