Hawa Mahal Palace
Located on the city centre of the capital city of Jaipur, the Hawa Mahal is beautiful as a dream, even now. The name Hawa Mahal literally means Palace of the Breeze. This unique five storeyed complex resembles a honeycomb and has 943 small windows, called jharokhas that are elegantly done up with intricate lattice work and pretty balconies that are well complimented by arched roofs with hanging cornices.
The structure has a pyramid plan and was designed by Lal Chand Ustad who dedicated his work to Lord Krishna and Radha. The pyramid shape gives it an appearance of the crown of Lord Krishna. The Mahal stands atop a platform of over fifty feet high. The main entrance is through the city palace, which leads to the open courtyard lined with double storeyed buildings on all three sides. The upper two storeys have only a single room. Interestingly there are no staircases to reach the upper floors but only ramps that were designed for carrying the palanquin of the royal ladies.
Built with red and pink sandstone, the palace is one of the most stunning landmarks of Jaipur and is situated on the city centre.
