The Truth About Quick Fixes for Delaying Aging
Although the best ways to prevent premature aging would be the natural ways such as eating a balanced diet and leading an active and healthy lifestyle, there are some who choose to use some "quick fixes" that claim to be revolutionary ways to stay young and healthy.
Here are some of these "quick fixes", along with some information that could help you decide whether or not you should use them.
1.
HGH or Human Growth Hormones These hormones are naturally produced by the pituitary gland in the brain.
They are said to be responsible for the growth and vitality of an individual.
They are also in charge of cell repair and renewal which are important in maintaining the health and youth of the body.
Although there is an abundant production of this hormone when you are young, it drops once you reach the age of 40.
At the age of 70, the production of HGH could drop by as much as 75%.
Because of this, HGH supplementation became more popular.
HGH is now available in injections, capsules and pills.
However, many are wondering whether they are really effective in increasing the production of HGH, There are some studies which show muscle mass increased and the amount of body fat decreased in patients who had a documented HGH deficiency and received injections of the hormone a couple of times every week.
However, the studies were not able to establish if the increase in muscle mass was accompanied with an increase of strength.
This is why HGH supplementation seems to be somehow beneficial for those individuals who actually have an HGH deficiency but it might not be as helpful for those who do not really have an HGH deficiency but would like to get the benefits of an increased HGH production such as added strength, youth and vitality.
2.
DHEA or Dehydroepiandrosterone This is a hormone which is naturally produced by the adrenal glands.
DHEA is converted by the body into estrogen and testosterone.
Similar to HGH, the levels of DHEA also drop as an individual gets older.
Some claim that increasing DHEA production through taking DHEA supplements could help in increasing energy levels, bone density and muscle mass as well as strengthen the immune system and delay the process of aging.
However, based on a study conducted in individuals over the age of 60 who took DHEA supplements did not show any increase in bone mass, muscle strength, endurance or an improvement in overall health.
There was also another study conducted which showed that taking DHEA helped in reducing body fat and insulin resistance.
Based on the two studies, it shows that taking DHEA supplementation can help an individual who has been diagnosed to have a deficiency of the hormone but is not really beneficial for those who do not have a deficiency.
3.
Testosterone Therapy This is another controversial hormone therapy which is believed to help in increasing the production of testosterone.
Having a low level of testosterone can contribute to impotence, decreased sex drive, muscle loss, bone loss and low energy levels in men and women.
However, some of the testosterone supplements available today should not be used as an instant fix to these problems.
Keep in mind that although the hormone supplements that are being offered today could help in a way in improving your health and well-being, it is still best to go the natural route.
If you do decide to use any of the supplements in the market, make sure to check with your doctor first to be sure that they would not just be effective but also safe to use.
