Summer Wedding Tips

One of the first things you do upon becoming engaged is to consider the time of year of which you'd like to exchange your €I do's'. The most popular season to get wed is in the Summer. Glorious sunshine (we can but hope!), long balmy evenings and an abundance of natural beauty make this time of year the choice for many couples. Once you have discovered and booked your dream venue and decided on your colour theme it's time to begin adding your own individual touches to make your wedding day a reflection of you and your partner's personality and interests. When planning a wedding it can sometimes be difficult to know where to begin so here we have compiled a few helpful ideas to assist you along your exciting journey of preparing for one of the biggest and most special days of your life.

The sun is often mistaken for how powerful it can be. Don't forget to pop on the sunscreen before you get into your wedding dress. There are many brands that last all day without the need to top up. Try them out beforehand to be certain that you suffer no allergic reactions. To keep you and your bridal party in the shade invest in an alternative accessory of a pretty parasol - they make a great photo prop too! Keep your guests cool by handing out fans alongside the order of service or as part of the table arrangements - they could even be used as your wedding favours. Talking of the weather do be prepared for some of that wet stuff. Rain is actually considered lucky on your big day, have some wellies and large umbrellas just in case.

Summer weddings mean that the vast majority of your guests will be outside enjoying your celebrations. Consider the decor for the outdoor area of your venue. Candles in large lanterns placed around the pathways and on tables create a romantic atmosphere whilst making those lighter evenings last even longer. As it can sometimes get a little bit nippy have some throws or blankets for your guests to wrap around themselves. Chill out areas with bean bags and cushions help your guests to unwind and relax. To keep guests of all ages happy, smiling and laughing think about hiring or purchasing some games. A giant Jenga or Connect 4, croquet on the lawn or even a bouncy castle will keep everyone entertained.

If people are outdoors it can result in things like the guestbook not getting signed. Simply pop it on a table outdoors with some summery props like giant sunglasses, floppy hat and a beach ball with a camera to receive a handwritten message and a quirky picture to go alongside it. Alternatively why not think about having a photo or video booth.

Food requires careful consideration particularly if it is going to be served and left outside. BBQs and Hog Roasts make perfect evening reception grub. We recently attended a wedding that had a fish and chip shop van which was fantastic and loved by all! Wedding cake can often get wasted as it can be too heavy. Pavlovas or a cheesecake are light and summery. Sweetie trees or candy bars are another alternative, or how about hiring an ice cream van!

As your day moves into the evening you could change your wedding dress into a second gown that is more lightweight so you can stay cool for your reception party. Your wedding shoes also need to be comfortable. Wearing them all day and night is going to take its toll on your feet and a hot summer's day will make them expand in the heat. Lastly, ensure you wear stay put make-up to prevent it sliding off your face and wear your hair in a style that can withstand the humidity.
