Review of Justice Hunter

Justice Hunter by Harper Dimmerman follows a lawyer named Hunter Gray who has several issues that haunt him as he goes about his business in the book. While he is a lawyer, he also has a drug problem, takes anti-depressants, and juggles an affair with a judge with ties to another judge that doesn't quite like Hunter. Hunter ends up getting himself into even more trouble when he pursues a case involving the owner of a pizza franchise and possible ties to the mafia. As he works himself deeper into the case, his already dysfunctional life is made to be even more difficult, though Hunter doesn't discover who is behind all of it until the very end.€Dimmerman paints a complete picture as the character steps into a room which gives the reader a more finished look at a real world scenario. The author does provide all of those details that are necessary for understanding what's happening in the story but purposefully skims on details that readers would glaze over on. Transitions are seamless and natural, which is a rather odd thing to say given the gritty language of the book. Still, the language adds to the picture of the story and seems to have been a purposeful move. Dimmerman's command on the English language is excellent and his vocabulary is obviously expansive.
True to its setting, there are many allusions to the culture of Philadelphia folded into the story throughout the entire book, which adds to the consistency and interest of the story itself. One can appreciate when the setting is so perfectly constructed in a book that it must reflect the author's own background. I appreciate when a setting and dialogue can be carried out in such a way that it almost feels as though everything in the book has happened before.
Justice Hunter appeals to those interested in political thrillers with its often politicized language and may even appeal to the reader's philosophical side with Hunter's realizations about the justice system and society near the end of the book. It is a thriller in the truest sense of the word as both language and story play emotions up to keep the reader engaged all the way through. The ending is just as surprising as any other point in the book just as the author teases in his description. The book is well-balanced and will leave the reader feeling exhilarated and satisfied.
Whether you're looking for yet another legal/crime thriller or want to try it out, Justice Hunter is a fantastic representation of the subgenre that will keep you interested and engaged.
