Visiting Paris is the trip of a lifetime for many. The city holds some of the world's most recognized and famous sites. Careful planning ensures visitors experience all the traditional landmarks. Organize your trip to see landmarks near each other instead of criss-crossing the city. Many of the famous sites are accessible by public transportation or walking. Bringing a comfortable pair of walking shoes is advisable for Paris.

    Eiffel Tower

    • Visit the most distinctive symbol of Paris. Built in 1889 for the Universal Exhibition, the Eiffel Tower stands 1,050 feet tall. Enjoy the view from the third level viewing gallery. On clear days it's possible to see for 50 miles. Call for reservations at the Jules Verne Restaurant on the Eiffel Tower's second level. Dine on some of the finest food in Paris with an excellent view of the city. Make sure to catch a glimpse of the Eiffel Tower while it's illuminated against the night sky. Spend a few hours in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower at the Champ-de-Mars, picnicking, reading, sketching or relaxing. This area provides an excellent picture opportunity. Remember Eiffel Tower hours change seasonally.

    Musée du Louvre

    • Browse famous works of art at the Musée du Louvre. Opening in 1793, Musée du Louvre houses more than 350,000 pieces of art. Look for famous pieces such as Madonna and Child, the Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo. Organize your visit and select which pieces of art you are most interested in seeing. After entry, corridors spread into three wings, with paintings and sculpture arranged by country of origin. Plan to visit the first Sunday of the month and take advantage of free admission.

    Arc de Triomphe

    • Plan a stop at the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. Completed in 1836 to honor those who fought for France, the inside and top of the 164-foot arch list general's names and wars fought. Below the arch lies the tomb of the unknown soldier and the eternal flame. Jacqueline Kennedy requested a similar eternal flame be placed next to John F. Kennedy's grave at Arlington National Cemetery after his assassination. Ride the elevator to the top and enjoy breathtaking views of Paris. The Champs-Elysées is to the east and to the west is the Grande Arche of La Défense.
