Women"s 2012 NCAA Preview
NCAA Women’s Diver of the Championships
Whoever wins the Diver of the Championships is probably going to be the most consistent over the three events (Duh!). Three prime candidates for the award are Vennie Dantin (Auburn), Bianca Alvarez (Ohio State) and Tori Ishimatsu (Southern California). Each of these divers has the ability to make finals in any of their events, but if history is any indication of success, Dantin would be the choice.
She made finals in two events last year and the way things are shaping up for 2012 looks to be a prime candidate to do at least that this year.
Don’t count out Texas A&M divers Janie Potvin and Jaele Patrick, as they could do the same and have a pretty good coach in Jay Larew.
Top Teams
At first glance, the favorite for the top team would have to be Texas A&M with three divers entered, two of whom (Janie Potvin and Jaele Patrick) should be counted on to score. But my bet is Auburn with Vennie Dantin and Anna Aguero.
Dantin made finals in two events last year, is a senior and could win in any of those three events. Despite not qualifying last year, Aguero has scored previously, is a senior and would no doubt like to go out with a bang.
