Service Design – How does it Benefit the Hospitality Industry

Service design is a concept that is routinely employed by business organizations that offer services to clients in some manner or the other. Several different services are put into practice to benefit their prospective customers, to make improvements to the existing business structure and also to implement new practices and techniques which will enable them to provide better services. In short, it can be said that the right design of service will enable better interaction and communication between the provider and the customer satisfying both the parties equally.

Let us take the example of a restaurant to illustrate how service design can be put to use in the hospitality industry. Whenever a restaurant wants to impart better service to its clients, this type of organization is put into practice in the form of a new interior layout to create a better ambience for the customers or a better designed menu to appeal to the gastronomic tastes of its customers. One of the biggest advantages of this design service is that the new changes are integrated seamlessly into the existing structure so that the old customers do not feel too much of a change and yet helps to attract new and potential clients.

It is not just consumer experience that rules the roost in design service. The changes implemented must not affect the day to day functioning of the organization or make it difficult for the employees. For example; if the manual billing system in a restaurant is being converted into an automated system, then it must be designed in such a manner that the staff find it least obtrusive and can seamlessly adapt to the new change. Any kind of change that is implemented not only happens at the front end of the business but also at the back end and it is this combination that ensures the smooth working of an organization.

Service design is routinely employed in the hospitality industry which has become highly competitive these days. New ideas and experiences are constantly created to attract potential clients in the form of gourmet gastronomic delights, better accommodation facilities, luxurious ambience etc. Service designers have a huge task at hand of carefully studying and analyzing the changes that need to be made after thorough research and then draw up a blueprint of how this can be achieved in the best manner and finally the changes are implemented into the existing system.
