Blogging about Blogging?

103 2
Have you ever been to a Blog and the Blogger introduces the subject of blogging? Well it happens all the time.
Once I was on a website which had a Blog and most of the topics were about writing and yet, a new topic popped up about Blog Etiquette and Blog Rules of Participation.
Well indeed it got quite lively and then I stopped to think about the absurdity of it all and I had to ask the question of the other participants.
"Has anyone considered that we are Blogging about Blogging? I mean think how ridiculous this is.
The Internet is a created reality, it is not the real world and here we are discussing the dynamics, human behavior and communication strategies of the very process.
It is like writing about writing.
You know you have gone too far when you start writing about writing or blogging about blogging?" After we all had a laugh, the conversation went on without missing a beat and then I thought well, so what? If that is the topic and people wish to communicate this, why not? So the subject went on discussing what sorts of rules should be enacted for those participating.
Lots of rules had been previously proposed and some 10-rules adopted in the end and this became the main thrust of the argument and discussion.
Some rules are necessary of course, nevertheless in studying groups, committees, free-flow thought brain-storming; less rules is always better and more rules create bureaucracy and destroy innovation in its purity.
So to that point, which only a few had addressed on that Blog, it is a bad idea to have lots of rules and make rules about rules.
It is indeed a commonality and given that once you make one rule you have created a never ending job for yourself and job security to keep re-defining the Blog rules and thus completely defeat the purpose for which the Blog was originally intended.
Therefore my point of contention stands and it is amazing no one had addressed that issue or stepped out of the Blog long enough to see this true nature of semantics.
So if you are considering Blogging about Blogging, due understand how silly all this meaningless electronic communication can get? Perhaps this will propel thought in 2007.
