Brands of Riding Lawn Mowers
- Pushing a lawn mower across a large yard can become a challenging task, especially in the hot summer sun. A riding lawn mower, also known as a lawn or garden tractor, may make mowing the lawn enjoyable again, and some even have sun shades available. Lawn tractors come in a variety of sizes and models from several companies that allow homeowners to match the terrain of their yard to the capabilities of the machine.
- John Deere's 100 series lawn tractors have a trademarked Edge Cutting System and are ideal for lawns between 1.5 and 2.5 acres in size. The 100 series models are easily modified for bagging, mulching or side discharging and are powered by engines ranging from 19.5 to 26 horsepower. The X300 series by John Deere has four-wheel steering, a four-year warranty and a 17-horsepower V-twin engine. For mult-terrain areas, the X500 series has two-pedal automatic transmission and a 48-inch cutting system. John Deere's X700 is known as the Ultimate Tractor due to its diesel engine, cruise control, power steering and 24-horsepower engine.
- Known as lawn and garden tractors, Husqvarna describes its riding lawn mowers as "thoroughbred yard work horses." Cutting widths range from 38 to 54 inches on Husqvarna tractors, which is important for yards with trees or shrubs that may require narrower mowing areas. All Husqvarna models may be modified to mulch, bag or side discharge grass clippings. Accessories are available for Husqvarna's tractors, such as double or triple baggers, aerators, sun shades and seat covers. Three-year warranties are standard on all Husqvarna lawn and garden tractors.
- Snapper's lawn tractors are categorized into three series, each with identifying features and advantages. The LT-130 AWS series has all-wheel steering for complex landscaping and a Briggs and Stratton 23-horsepower engine. A 46-inch steel mower deck is controlled by a single-pedal hydro-automatic transmission on the LT-130 AWS model. Snapper's LT-125 series has a 14-inch turning radius and a 42 or 46-inch mower deck. The LT-125 also has a turning front axle for hills or uneven ground and the choice of a 23 or 24-horsepower engine. The LT-200 series by Snapper is ideal for larger lawns, with cutting widths ranging from 38 to 50 inches.
- Toro specifies its riding lawn mowers as lawn or garden tractors. LX lawn tractors are recommended by Toro for lawns between one and two acres and are available in 42- and 46-inch mowing deck widths.
