How to Cure Influenza
- 1). Take an over-the-counter (OTC) medication. Cold and flu medications are available, which can help relieve symptoms associated with influenza, such as body aches, fever, congestion, sore throat, coughing and runny nose. Take the medication as directed.
- 2). Increase your fluid intake. To prevent dehydration, drink plenty of fluids, such as water or hot tea (decaffeinated).
- 3). Drink orange juice. Vitamin C boosts your immune system, enabling you to fight the infection and recover sooner. Add a vitamin C supplement to your regimen while you're feeling under the weather.
- 4). Eat chicken soup. This old wive's tale is an effective cold and flu remedy. Consuming chicken soup or chicken broth thins mucus and relieves throat irritation.
- 5). Get plenty of rest. Resting improves your immune system. Stay home from work or school and, if possible, remain in bed and avoid exertion.
- 6). Use a humidifier. To loosen mucus and clear chest congestion, place a warm-mist humidifier in your bedroom. The warm, moist air thins mucus and eases coughing, tightness and wheezing.
