The 2100-guest Nieuw Amsterdam of Holland America has many spacious outdoor deck areas. The cruise ship has two swimming pools--the main Lido pool, which is midshp on the Lido Deck, and the Sea View pool, an adults-only pool aft on the same deck. Comfortable sun lounge chairs are found around both pools and on the top three decks. The Lido pool has a cover that can be closed in inclement weather.
In addition to the swimming pools and lounge areas, the observation deck (deck 11) has a sports center with basketball/volleyball court.
One nice outdoor area on the Nieuw Amsterdam is the Cabana Club, a private area with small cabanas overlooking either the Lido pool or the ocean. These cabanas are ideal for those who love to sit outside and want more space than a cabin balcony provides. Those renting a cabana (either by the day or the whole cruise) get some of the best views of the pool and the ocean, along with extra amenities.
The Nieuw Amsterdam has a wrap-around promenade on deck 3. This teak walking deck is covered and it's only three laps to the mile! Tradional teak deck chairs line much of the promenade deck, and many guests prefer to sit outdoors there rather than by the pool. It's quieter and always shady.

Nieuw Amsterdam - Lido Pool
Sun worshipers and those who love swimming pools or whirlpools love the Lido Pool on the Nieuw Amsterdam. Since there is no large video screen, the pool is quieter than on some larger ships, but still nosier than the adults-only Sea View pool area seen in the next picture.
Nieuw Amsterdam - Sea View Pool
The Sea View pool on the Nieuw Amsterdam is aft on the Lido deck, right behind the Lido Restaurant. It's an adults-only pool area, with deck chairs, whirlpools, and the Sea View bar. The Sea View pool is just a few steps from Slice Pizza and the Lido buffet, so there's always a snack nearby.
Nieuw Amsterdam - Outdoor Sports Deck
The Nieuw Amsterdam Outdoor Sports Deck is used for basketball, tennis, and volleyball games.
Nieuw Amsterdam - Promenade Deck
The Holland America Nieuw Amsterdam has a traditional promenade on deck 3. The teak walking deck encircles the ship and is three laps to the mile. The promenade deck also has many classic teak deck chairs, which are perfect for reading, napping, or enjoying the sea views from a quiet location in the shade.
Passengers looking for some outdoor luxury on the Nieuw Amsterdam might want to rent one of these private cabanas, either for the day or for the entire cruise. They include extra amenities and great views of the Lido Pool and the ocean. As is seen in the next picture, you can even get an outdoor massage in the cabanas!
One of the cabanas at the Cabana Club is set up for outdoor massages. Guests can enjoy the sea breeze and the view while relaxing with a massage.
