Sri Lanka Premier League (SLPL) is projected to begin next month. In an interview, Sandeep Bhammer has revealed why SEV became sponsored partners of Premier League. He revealed about his existing plans for the premier league. He also told how he is hoping to make Premier League an initial part of the calendar of cricket and even more.
Why Bhammer Interested in SLPL and SLC?
He answers this question in this way - Well, Premier League was launched when Sri Lanka recovered from the Civil War which was held about 30 years ago. Now SLC or Sri Lanka Cricket Board was seeking for the means and options to identify and come out with a larger population of talent from this island country.
Most powerful and effective players of Sri Lanka came out from Colombo and nearby locations in the history of Sri Lankan cricket. Hence, it was a bit complex to come out with great talents from different parts of the nation. As per the point of view of T20 Cricket, it was concluded that the national team shall be started and work as a feeder for international team. Cricket was only limited to club level in the past and such clubs would participate effectively as the feeders for International squad.
Because only 66 clubs are there in Sri Lanka, the process was going a bit complex. On average, each club had just 20 to 22 players from club sides. If 20 players are taken from each of 66 clubs, over 1300 players were left to be selected for the national team which has only 18 to 20 players.
Today, if country is categorized into seven states, each state features best and effective players to play for their team. Consequently, from the 140 players' pool, it is a lot simple to select 18-20 players of national team. Players can get amazing opportunity from the provincial cricket. But it gone ignored because there were some reasons ahead of control. SLPL is a platform which is organized on state lines. This platform creates opportunities and situations for the players to get noticed even when they are not from national team. By giving both young and local cricketers with opportunities and international platform to play with international players, one can effectively create benchmark of strength.
When the company was getting recovered from the Civil War, Sri Lanka has got increased commercial interest of several companies across the world. Companies have got amazing opportunities of sponsorship from the government to cover all the parts of Sri Lanka. Either coming as franchise owner or as sponsor, the companies can reach the entire island within a shortest span of time.
