- 1). Browse to either the A.M. Best website, the Standard & Poor's website or both. These are the top financial rating agencies and they both track the solvency and overall health of life insurance companies.
- 2). Register with whichever website you choose. Registration is free on both sites. With A.M. Best, click the "sign-up" link in the "Member Center" area located on most pages within the site. With Standard & Poor's, click the "register" link at the top of most pages.
- 3). Go to the insurance page on the site you choose. With A.M. Best, you can choose life/health insurance specifically.
- 4). Search for your life insurance company. A.M. Best allows you to search according to the criteria you wish to find, such as financial strength. You then find and choose your insurer from the list provided. Standard & Poor's provides a search box into which you type the name of the life insurer you hope to find.
