- 1). Open a new image in the photo editing software of your choice. Create the base picture for the animation using the editing tools available to you. You can also find an image to alter using a search engine, instead of creating one yourself.
- 2). Save a copy of the base image, and import it into your animation editing software. Set the base image as the first frame of the animation.
- 3). Copy the base picture into a new image file, and save it under a different file name. Change the color of some of the objects in the second image to create the second frame of the animation. Click on a portion of the image or text with the fill tool to change the color of the object, or use the hue settings under the image color menu to tweak the color of the entire picture.
- 4). Save the second image, and import it into your animation program. Set the picture as the second frame of the animation. You only need two animation frames to make a flashing graphic, but you may wish to create additional frames to alter the flashing effect to your specific needs.
- 5). Edit the frame rate of your animation. A lower frame rate will create a faster flashing effect. Preview your flashing graphic using the tools provided by your animation software. You will likely need to adjust the speed of the animation until you are satisfied with the effect.
- 6). Save the flashing graphic with a gif file extension. Many animation programs have built-in optimization programs that help you save your animated gif with the best settings.
