Dublin

  An Ireland vacation should include a trip to Dublin, which has become one of the most popular weekend destinations in Europe. Some of the world's best writers lived and worked in Dublin, such as James Joyce, Oscar Wilde, Samuel Beckett and Bram Stoker. Book lovers will find much to see and do, from visiting the Oscar Wilde House Museum to taking a guided tour of landmarks from James Joyce's classic novel Ulysses. The Book of Kells, one of the oldest books in the world, is also on display at Dublin's historic Trinity College.
  
  Visit Christ Church Cathedral and Dublin Castle before heading out for souvenirs on Grafton Street, a popular shopping spot. The Guinness Storehouse is also located in Dublin, so fans of Ireland's famous dark beer shouldn't miss taking a tour of the brewery. After the tour, have a sample pint while watching the sun set in the Guinness Gravity Bar, which offers spectacular views of the city. For late night fun, try out some of the many pubs in the area of town called Temple Bar, where Dubliners let loose every night of the week.

  If you're looking for a vacation that takes you away from the bright lights of the city, Ireland has plenty of natural beauty to experience. Renting a car for a lazy scenic ride through the Irish countryside is a real treat. From rolling green hills dotted with sheep to breathtaking cliffs, virtually every scene looks like a picture postcard. The Inishowen Peninsula north of Donegal Town is especially beautiful, and the Cliffs of Moher in County Clare are a must see.   There are many small towns and villages scattered through the countryside, away from the touristy bustle of Dublin. In these little villages you can stop in most any pub and make some instant friends while enjoying authentic live Irish music. Ask the locals what to see and do. You'll find the people of Ireland to be extremely friendly and helpful. Standout towns include the laid back and lovely Kilkenny, also known as "Marble Town," Donegal, and the village of Lisdoonvarna.
