Cockpit Light Dimmer Installation
- A cockpit light dimmer system consists of a main power module with multiple dimmer extensions. Each dimmer extension attaches to a different instrument lighting group for individual dimming needs.
- The main power module generates a lot of heat and must be attached to a metal surface or a fabricated stand. Wires extend from the module to potentiometers, or variable resistors, that control the dimming action. The potentiometers connect to the individual lighting instrument panels. The user can adjust the potentiometer from partial to full brightness for each instrument group.
- Using multiple dimming components from the main power module allows better visibility of the cockpit instrument panels. Pilots have difficulty viewing the instrument information with just one dimmer switch, which can lead to flying mistakes due to misinformation.
