5 Myths of Hair Growth
While women seem concerned with growing long locks as fast as possible, men are more concerned over their thinning or receding hairline.
Unfortunately, in their quest many people buy into one or all the myths associated with hair growth, only to find themselves disappointed when none of these so called remedies work.
In order to save you time and frustration here are 5 common myths and the reasons they do not work.
Cutting Will help Your Hair Grow Longer and Thicker There are two myths that center around the cutting of hair to make it grow.
One myth states that keeping it trimmed will make it grow longer faster, the other one states that cutting it will make it grow in thicker.
While it would be nice if either of these myths proved themselves to be true that is simply not the case.
Common sense tells us that trimming it makes it shorter not longer.
Hair grows on average at about 1/2 inch a year.
Recommended trimming is to trim 1/4 of an inch every 3 to 6 months.
In reality, by the end of the year you'll end up with your hair either being the same length as when you started or it will actually be an 1/2 inch shorter.
While trimming is recommended, it's purpose is to remove split ends thus making your hair look healthier.
While this certainly looks beautiful it will not be any longer.
Just as cutting your hair will not make it any longer, neither will it make it grow in thicker.
This myth came about because there are certain areas of your body where cutting the hair will make it come in coarser and therefore look thicker.
Your head is just not one of those places.
Keeping your Scalp Oiled While certain machinery does run better when it is kept well oiled, oiling your scalp will not make your hair grow any faster.
In fact, excess oil clogs the pours in your scalp and can actually result in hair loss.
Keeping your head clean may not stimulate hair growth but it will prevent loss and make your hair look better as well.
Keeping Your Hair Wet Will Make It Grow Faster No one seems to know where this myth came from but it has been around for quite awhile.
Presumably since a well watered garden grows well someone thought keeping your head wet would do the same thing.
In truth, wet hair breaks easier than dry, and therefore can resulted in uneven length not longer hair.
Standing on Your Head for Several Minutes a Day Will Increase Hair Growth While good circulation is important to healthy hair and its growth most people already have adequate circulation.
Standing on your head is a case of believing more is better and this is simply not the case.
While many people would like thicker or longer hair, buying into myths that don't work will only cause frustration and disappointment.
