Bed Guards - Safety Measures and Getting Your Child Used to It

105 3
Once a kid goes past the age of two, parents usually consider shifting him from a cot to a bigger sized bed. This sudden transition can become quite unsettling for many toddlers. They may take time to get used to the changes in their habits. Adding a bed guard is a recommended option to ensure the safety of your child. Besides these, there are other safety measures you will have to take and also make sure your kid gets adapted to the change.

Getting Your Child Used to the Changes

Some children may be perturbed at the change in sleeping habits and may hesitate sleeping in their new place. Especially with some bed guards which have railings, they may feel caged. You can tackle this problem by making your child's bedroom a little attractive and converting it into a place where they would feel like spending their time in.

You should also remember not to use the room as a place for punishing your child. It can lead to the child dreading the place and looking upon it as a place for punishment. You must make sure the child is comfortable with the new place. You can also spend some time with the kid in his new bedroom until he is comfortable.

Besides making your child comfortable in his new room, there are many other things you must do to ensure the safety of your child.
Safety measures

Make sure when you buy a conventional wooden or metal bed guard that your child does not put his head through the rails. If your child shows a tendency to do so, it would be better to switch to a foam bed guard. All you have to do is tuck it under the mattresses on both sides of the bed.

Do not place your child's bed close to heat sources like radiators. Also avoid placing the bed close to doors or windows and remember to keep the windows in your child's room locked securely.

When you are using wooden or metal bed guards, make sure they are fixed tightly onto the bed. This should be done to prevent the guard from falling off. Also try not to place the bed too close to the wall which can be congesting for your little one.

Make sure you clean your child's room on a regular basis. Kids' rooms can easily become messy and will need frequent cleaning to prevent the kid from any allergens.

In case you have to travel occasionally you will have to consider purchasing a foam guard for your child. The advantage about foam guards is that they are lightweight and easily portable. Also they require no mantling and dismantling like the other types of bed guards.

When moving your child to a separate bed you will have to take a lot of safety measures and make sure the little one is fond of it. These steps will help you in keeping your child safe and happy.
