When Was Toyota Founded?
- The Toyota Motor Company was founded by the Toyoda family of Japan. Originally, the family worked in the weaving industry, developing power looms to make the craft easier.
- In 1933, the Toyodas added an automobile segment to their loom business. In 1937, Kiichiro Toyoda founded the Toyota Motor Corporation. Within a decade, the company produced more than 100,000 vehicles.
- Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. was founded in California on October 31, 1957. Today, more than half of Toyotas sold in the U.S. are built in the U.S.
- Today, Toyota is headquartered in Aichi, Japan. The automaker has factories all over the globe and manufacturing or assembly plants in several countries, including Japan, Australia, Brazil, India and South Africa.
